The $0 Guest Room Redo

Even though we don't get many guests coming our way, one of the exculsive pleasures of homeownership is having a guest room. Before last night, our guest room was more of a screened in porch which was not too inviting and often bitterly cold. So with the announcement of a good friend coming into town, we got ourselves motivated to make a room that was both relaxing while also retaining heat. To do this, we switched rooms with the office/craft room/storage room.

Guest room before, when it was our "office"

And after:

Antique twin bed from my mom, wood side table from Joey's mom that I painted blue, lamp from my mother.

Artwork above the bed, engagement gift from Nicaragua

Rug I bought on sale at Urban Outfitters in 2007

Old chest of drawers from the parents with replaced knobs from Hobby Lobby, thrifted portrait (we call him Mike), lamp from... sister?

Antique singer sewing table we got from Joey's uncles, pink slipper chair from Craigslist, old Mexican bark painting from my sister?

Closeup of the Mexican bark painting that I LOVE. I painted this old frame with the same color as the night stand. I would say this painting was the inspiration for the room, but seeing how it was the last piece I added, it just happened that it fit the room perfectly.

This is our only south facing window, so hopefully my plants will enjoy it here. The pot on the right was painted for us by my 5 year old cousin Sophia for a wedding gift! I love it.

Still to do:
- curtains of course, any suggestions?
-  put up a light fixture. Possibilities are either an old painted chandelier or the Fado fixture from Ikea.
- Finishing it off with an otomi fabric bedspread:

Gasp, gorgeous right?
