ROK

There are 30 days left before my due date, so I have decided to start calling Kuhlette by her real name here on the blog. I always thought it was weird to do that, name a baby before you see it, but the name we both have agreed on seems so perfect for our first born, I can't help but to go with it. It feels so right to refer to her as her real name, rather than Kuhlette or Baby Kuhlrock.

We are naming our baby girl, Ruby Olivia. Her initials will be ROK. I love it sooo much.

Names mean a lot to me, and I have always loved hearing what people decide to name a newborn. Being the packrat that I am, I have kept every journal I have ever written and you better believe they all include name lists. Popular choices of mine growing up through the years include: Ivy, Stella, Samantha, Pony, Pixie, Molly and Bert.

That is a picture of Ruby, my great-grandmother. My mom, being the youngest of nine children, spent lots of time at Grandma Ruby's house. At one point in my life I remember my mom telling me that she would have named me Ruby, had our last name not contained so many R's. I have a memory of me sitting and thinking quite a while how my life would be different if I were a Ruby. I really really really wished she would have just named me Ruby. So I am pretty glad I get to name my daughter Ruby.

Since we went with a family name from my side for her first name, I let Joe generate the list of possible middle names. He looked through some books, and would suggest a few, but would always come back to Olivia. I know it is a really popular name these days, but I think it is just a classic. I like having a popular, classic middle name in case Ruby does not share our love of her first name.

So there you have it! The naming of our first daughter!
