Ruby is already apprehensive about what is going to go down..
We took her to the best salon in all of metro St. Louis: Cary O'Brien's Design and Color Spa. Yes, it is my cousin's salon. But it is still the best salon in all of metro STL, believe me. And Jenny is just about the best of the best there. She has been doing my hair since I was in college, about 7 years now. Back in my college days I would go and Jenny would practice a new technique on me. I got some pretty crazy (crazy awesome) styles back in the day. Now I go in and its all "I have a conference to go to in 2 weeks, a wedding to attend in 3 weeks and my baby likes to pull on my hair, so make it work." Okay, that is a lie. Jenny is so good she already knows all of this and just DOES it. Last appointment was the first time I have ever shown her an inspiration picture and I felt like I was going to insult her. Luckily Jenny is 100% awesome and loved the inspiration pic and then made me look like it. And THEN she taught me how to do it myself in about 5 minutes in the morning. Jenny = love + amazing. So I knew she was perfect for the job of cutting Ruby's fauxhawk.
A classic shot of Ruby's fauxhawk:
And a view of the lock of hair on the side of her head that drives me batty:

When Jenny first started coming at Ruby with scissors, Ruby wasn't so sure. She needed to get a good look at what scissors were before anything could happen.
She then felt the need to hold the scissors and comb herself.

Ruby agreed to the haircut as long as she could direct Jenny's hand.

Bye bye fauxhawk!

We did save what little was cut off. Ruby's second haircut might produce more hair for the scrapbook though... In the end, Jenny was able to get rid of the side lock completely. We (we being Jenny and Ruby) elected to leave a little bit of the front lock so she had some hair to pin a bow in if need be. That, or that is all Ruby would let Jenny cut. Ruby is pretty happy with the results:
